Experienced in both family law litigation and productive settlement agreements, Heather M. Patrick is known for her assertive and efficient counsel at trial, in arbitration, and in mediation.
Heather's practice background includes domestic violence, complex property division, spousal and child support, complex child custody (including move-away orders), paternity issues, premarital and postnuptial agreements and post-divorce and support modifications. In addition, she has guided clients in the dissolution of domestic partnerships and same-sex marriages.
A graduate of Southwestern Law School, Heather is an active volunteer at the Harriet Buhai Center for Family Law, which provides free family law assistance and legal education to the poor.
How do you work with clients?
A divorce is a very personal event in anyone’s life. With that understanding, I deliver personal counsel and provide compassionate advice directly to the client. It manifests itself as thorough preparation for all litigation events, meaningful attempts to resolve the matter outside of court, and, if necessary, a compelling and assertive courtroom demeanor.
Describe how you personalize your counsel.
Prior to attending law school, I was a domestic violence counselor. I bring with me a certain skill set to deal with victims of domestic abuse, including compassionate listening, which I can curate into aggressive litigation.
What value do you deliver to clients?
I have a keen sense of how both opposing counsel and courts will react/order on my clients’ litigation goals. This goes a far way in balancing desired outcomes versus available resources.
What is your favorite part of your work?
I appreciate the balance my work provides in terms of written and oral presentations. I am able to meet with a client, discuss issues and provide peace of mind by ensuring clients that I am working in their best interest. I can only provide that peace of mind by reading, analyzing or strategizing various court documents. Having the opportunity to write or orally present in court is exhilarating.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in New Mexico.
Favorite past time?
I am a Dodgers fan and enjoy everything culinary as well as spending time in the mountains and by lakes.
